Rohani Mohamad
Senior Secondary Maths teacher & VASS Strategist - Minaret College
Professional Bio
Rohani Mohamad is a secondary mathematics teacher at Minaret College, Officer campus for about 15 years. Prior to this, Rohani taught in Malaysia and Ontario, Canada. Growing up in Malaysia, she only knew the existence of high-stake external assessments. However, whilst teaching the Ontario curriculum, she experienced a system without any external assessments. Hence, when Rohani discovered the Victorian's school assessment system, she came here to study secondary mathematics teachers' assessment practices. Her PhD journey began in 2007 at the University of Melbourne, and she graduated under the supervision of Prof. Kaye Stacey. One of her research findings highlights how a teacher's belief system shapes his/her assessment practices. Since then, Rohani continues her learning journey through various professional learning platforms such as the MAV and the Victorian Academy. She graduated from the Teaching Excellence Program in 2022 from the Academy, where she met Hayley and many other passionate educators. At a personal level, Rohani is a mother of four grown up sons, and a wife to one lovely husband, who is also an educator. Her professional network and family help keep her well-being in checked. After all, as a Maths teacher, she has many problems… from number pattern to integration.
