About APSMO

The Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads (APSMO) Inc, is a not-for-profit professional organisation established in Australia in 1987 and affiliated with MOEMS (Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools) in the USA.

Our aim is to:

·      Promote and improve maths problem solving kills amongst ALL students in primary and secondary schools across Australia and New Zealand;
·      Encourage creativity, flexibility and collaboration in problem solving;
·      Stimulate enthusiasm for an enjoyment of mathematics; and
·      Support teachers in developing their students’ understanding of problem solving.

How do we achieve this?

We offer a range of different programs and competitions for both mainstream and high achieving students in Year 1 through to Year 8, enabling schools to develop a problem solving pathway of achievement whilst enhancing students’ skills and knowledge.

APSMO also supports teachers and students by providing a range of resources to complement the teaching of problem solving, including a number of resource books and professional learning opportunities for teachers, as well as assistance in identifying where students sit on the problem solving learning continuum.
